THS Athletics Headlines2012 Summer Pre-Participation Physical Information AnnouncedThe dates can be found here OHSAA releases new updated Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (PPE) for 2012-2013The form can be found at this link We really appreciate your patience as we underwent a rather extensive review and revision of this evaluation tool with our Joint Medical Advisory Committee. Many of the revisions were made in conjunction with recommendations that appear in the fourth monograph entitled “PPE – Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation” which was published by the American Academy of Pediatrics with contributions by six major American medical societies as authors of the monograph and resulting PPE. Those six societies are the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Sports Medicine, The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. One new feature of the PPE for 2012-13 is a section dedicated to the evaluation of the student with special needs. Please feel free to use this section, which is found on page two (2) as a supplement to the history questions on page one, which have also been revised, when appropriate. The actual physical exam form, which is to be used by the medical examiner, has been extended to a two page document represented as pages three and four. Page three includes some questions of a sensitive nature that the physician or medical examiner may consider when evaluating the student. Page four is the actual clearance section, and we have expanded the section for emergency information and other information that might be useful in protecting a student. Enough space has been left for the physician, the nurse practitioner or the physician’s assistant to stamp the form as opposed to affixing his or her signature. Please remember that under Ohio law, the following medical examiners are permitted to perform the PPE: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.), Advanced Nurse Practitioner (A.N.P) and a Physician’s Assistant (P.A.). Bob Ratterman again covering Talawanda sportsTalawanda High School sports coverage is now available on-line at Examiner.com with coverage provided by former Oxford Press editor Bob Ratterman. The Talawanda sports page is housed on the Cincinnati Examiner.com Web site. Ratterman was at The Oxford Press for 38 years, 20 of them as editor, and he covered Talawanda sports for much of that time. He accepted an early retirement offer last fall to find “something different” and is currently in a job search. Examiner.com gives him a chance to again be involved in Talawanda sports coverage, however. “I am a sports nut and covering Talawanda sports was always one of my favorite parts of the newspaper job,” Ratterman said. I enjoyed knowing the coaches, athletes and school officials and writing stories about the athletes and their accomplishments. It’s fun to be able to do that again.” Examiner.com is a national network of Web sites based in various cities with writers, called examiners, covering all aspects of life—including sports and recreation, entertainment, lifestyle issues, family & home and health & beauty as well as news. The Talawanda sports page is housed in the Cincinnati site for Examiner.com. The address for the Talawanda page itself is: http://www.examiner.com/talawanda-braves-in-cincinnati/bob-ratterman Users can go to that link which is Ratterman’s page and includes a biography and listing of his stories about the Braves. You can bookmark the page for future reference and also click on “Subscribe” next to his photo to be notified when a new story is published. Talawanda stories can also be found by going to the Cincinnati page and clicking on “sports,” which will bring up a menu of stories from all over the Cincinnati area. There is a comment section at the bottom of each story for readers to add their thoughts or suggest a story idea. You can also e-mail Ratterman with story ideas or for information about becoming an examiner yourself. His e-mail address is BRatterman@gmail.com. |
